    Perpetual monthly donations

    In This Article:

      Background

      One of Salsa's members suggested that we come up with a way to make recurring donations automatically perpetual. If the donor chooses a recurring donation, then it's a monthly contribution for as long as the credit card is valid.

      All it takes is a donation page and some Javascript, and the donor will be signed up to contribute monthly.

      Caveat:  (read this!)

      This script only works with standard donation pages where Salsa generates the amounts.  If your donation page is using Custom Donation HTML, then this script does not apply and will not work.  You might find the page here to be more helpful

      Installation

      Use these steps to install the solution.

      Enable recurring donations

      1. Edit a donation page.
      2. Click on the "Amounts" tab.
      3. Make sure that the "Include Recurring Donations" options is checked.

      Navigate to the Pre Submit Footer

      1. Click on the "Optional Text" tab.
      2. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
      3. Locate the Pre Submit Footer field.

      Install the script

      1. Click here to see the page where the script lives.
      2. Click on the Raw button.  A window with just the script will appear.
      3. Copy the contents of the window and close it.
      4. Return to the donation page editor.
      5. If there are contents in the Pre Submit Footer already, then scroll past them and insert a new line.
      6. Paste the copied text into the Pre Submit Footer.
      7. Save the donation page.
      8. Test!

      Customizations

      Change the message text

      Use these steps to change the message text.

      1. Return to the Pre Submit Footer where the script is installed.
      2. Click in the Pre Submit Footer.
      3. Use the browser's search tool to locate "var disclosure".
      4. Modify the text after "var disclosure".
      5. Do not change "var disclosure".  Do not changethe punctuation. (Thanks!)
      6. Save the template.

      Change the message appearance

      The message appearance can be modified by using CSS.  For example, to get a message that looks like this

       you can use CSS like this:

      <style type="text/css">
          .perpetual-disclaimer {
              padding: 5px;
              width: 500px;
              text-align: center;
              background-color: lemonchiffon;
              color: darkblue;
              border: 1pt solid forestgreen;
              line-height: 1.2em;
          }
      </style>

      Here are some steps you can use to copy this CSS to your donation page.

      1. Copy the CSS (above).
      2. Return to the Pre Submit Footer where the script is installed
      3. Click in the Pre Submit Footer field.
      4. Insert a blank line at the very top of the Pre Submit Footer field.
      5. Copy the CSS (above).
      6. Paste the CSS into the newly inserted line in the Pre Submit Footer field.
      7. Save the template.

      You can always return to the donation page and change the CSS rules to make the text larger or smaller, or have a different border/background.

      Recurring only, hide radio buttons

      If you'd like to have the donation page only collect a recurring donation.

      then here are some steps that you can use

      1. Return to the Pre Submit Footer field where the script is installed.
      2. Click in the Pre Submit Footer field.
      3. Use the browser's search tool to locate "//$('input[name=recurring]').parent().hide();".
      4. Remove the two slash marks (//).
      5. Save the donation page.
