Share video in an email blast

      When to use it

Have you created a clever and/or informative video? Would you like to share it with your supporters via an email blast? Here's how!

      How to get there

Add video on the content tab of your email blast workflow.

      Add video to email content

Upload the video to your chosen video hosting solution (we like YouTube).  Here's an example link to one of our training videos on YouTube:

Take a screenshot of the video on YouTube (Jing is a free screenshot tool you can use)

      Image tips:

      • If the image is large, be sure to resize it before uploading it into Salsa. 620 x 320 pixels is the largest image which should be inserted into an email blast.  Larger images can get you flagged as spam. Not sure how to resize an image? Check out our image upload documentation.
      • Make sure there are no spaces in the file name. Gmail hates file names with spaces.

Insert the screenshot into your email blast content using the WYSIWYG editor.

Link the screenshot to the video on YouTube

Why can't I embed the video?

We get asked the question a lot about embedding a video in an email.  Unfortunately there's no one "right" answer.  In short -- email is not a good medium for delivering videos.  There's a reasonably good summary of the issues here:

that boils down to "Only some email clients handle video, and only in some formats".  So even if we said "Use this chunk of code....", it would only work occasionally. In short, forcing video into an email may cause more problems than it solves.
