    Remove states from a State dropdown

    In This Article:

      Would you like to filter out what appears in a State dropdown?  For example, maybe take out the US territories, or remove the armed forces overseas pseudo states, or remove Oklahoma?  Maybe omit the Canadian provinces?

      States, provinces and territories can be removed from all of your public facing pages using bit of Javascript.  Here are some steps that you can use to install that script:

      1. Edit a template. Click here if you need help with that.
      2. Use the browser's search tool to find the </body> tag.
      3. Insert a blank line just before the </body> tag.
      4. Click here to see the page where the solution lives.
      5. Locate and click the "Raw" button.  A new page will appear that contains just the solution.
      6. Copy the contents of the window and close it.
      7. Return to the template.
      8. Paste the copied text into the newly inserted line in the template.
      9. Save the template.

      1. To choose states to remove, add them to the STATES field. For example, to exclude Okahoma, Iowa and Nebraska, change this
      var STATES = "";

      to this

      var STATES = "OK IA NE";

      If you add states to the STATES list, then they will be removed regardless of how the remaining items are configured.  Please be careful to follow the rules in the script file.  Truly...

      1. To just use US states and leave out all of the non-states, change this
      var US_STATES = false;

      to this

      var US_STATES = true;

      Setting US_STATES overrides the settings that follow, so please go to step 6if that's what you chose to do..

      1. To remove the Canadian provinces, change this
      var CANADIAN = false;

      to this

      var CANADIAN = true;
      1. If you would like to remove the states for US Armed Forces, then change this
      var ARMED_FORCES = false;

      to this

      var ARMED_FORCES = true;
      1. If you'd like to remove the "Other" option, then change this
      var OTHER = false;

      to this

      var OTHER = true;
      1. Save the template.
      2. Test!
