When Can I Expect Engage to Add Newly Elected Representatives?
After an election, the outgoing US Congress still has to close out business. Your old federal representatives remain in place until the end of the session. State legislators, if any are still in session, will finish out their terms until the newly elected officials are sworn in.
The US Congress is always sworn in on January 3 of the following year. State legislators will be sworn in according to each individual legislature’s calendar, usually when the session starts. After the swearing in, it may take a few days for the new legislators to get their offices set up, have their websites built, hire office staff, and even get phone lines in place.
Federal executive and congressional members and state executive and congressional members may be updated on a weekly basis. Local and county executives are updated monthly.
There may be a delay in receiving verified contact information, zip code and district mapping updates, or other information about a legislator that has been sworn-in because the legislator hasn’t confirmed their information for public use. If a legislator falls into this category, they may not be available until that data is verified and provided to us. That update may not come until the following week or later.
Once contact information for the new legislators has been made available to Salsa’s legislative data partner, we add that information into Salsa Engage. Every Monday from November to March, we'll update the known data, including verified contact information for newly sworn-in representatives.
From March to November, we do monthly updates on the 3rd week of the month. This includes updating the results of special elections.
Target With No Available Contact Methods
If you are adding a target to your Target Set, you may notice that there is no Available Contact Method for that target. This indicates that either...
- The target has a phone number on file, but Click to Call is not activated for your account.
- No means of communication (phone number, webform/email address, or Twitter handle) are on file.
When no contact methods are available, Engage will use your Fallback method (fax or store only) for supporter submissions. If a new communication channel becomes available for the target during our normal database updates, then Engage will automatically use the available channels. There is no need to republish the activity in this case.
